Founded in 1838, Poinsett County has a rich and time-tested culture that includes a number of locations listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. The Arkansas State University Technical Center in Marked Tree offers advanced courses in disciplines such as Licensed Practical Nursing and Computer and Networking Technology.
The 640-acre Lake Poinsett State Park boasts outdoor activities from hiking and canoeing to Dutch Oven cooking workshops and fishing derbies. Anglers enjoy catfish, bream and bass fishing in the lake’s shallow waters. Poinsett County also has a history of agricultural prosperity. The county’s fertile valleys provide an ideal environment for raising cotton, rice, milo, wheat, corn, soybeans and cattle.
